. The reflection of Montaigne on the thematic concerned in his essays.
v Introduction:-
Michel De Montaigne is considered as the great French essayist and the first writer of the essays. He was the man who first introduced the essay into English literature. He had seen too much of the law court and cultured society so he outpours his heart in his essay. He saw all life around him along with sweet, smart and stinging experience of life. He was inclined both the circumstance of his time on the variety of life, its business and pleasures. In most of his essays he represents the skeptical class of his contemporary society. But Montaigne added the peculiarity of his own temperament to his skepticism. Montaigne believes that a skeptical person always doubts the truth of particular claim, theory and especially the truth of the Christian religion or the all religions. Montaigne found his society more skeptical and he himself was not inclined to believe anything unless he had fund proof of it. He had a habit of questioning the truth about all his contemporary burning questions of education the children, maintaining friendship with people, how select friends and foes, how to selected books for reading, how to judge people from their behavior and actions and so on. He had doubting state of mind on every question.
v Skeptical attitude
In spite of skepticism his attitude was an ethical and critical attitude and general meaning of his essay is in complete contrast with this skeptical attitude. In Book I, he discusses about ‘That our action should be judged by our intention’, and presents his views on death. After the death of his faith friend, he wrote a lot on death like Jonne Donne. He writes that death releases us from all our obligation. He says it is every worse when a man who has concealed some ill with or desire to cause damage or pain to somebody and spiteful feelings against a neighbor for the whole of his life and confessed everything is his last will in that case he is showing little regards for his a reputation in the arousing the injustedman’s anger against his memory becomes help in the present of death. He writes his death has no statement that his life has not made already.
v On Idleness:-
Then he writes about Idleness in man’s life says that man should keep his mind active till his death. The mind a man should have the aim in life but the mind that has no fix aim in lost itself, he say when he retires in his life and goes to live in his original use he resolves that he would cease to concern himself with any thing expect the passing rest and retirement of the little time still has to live and by that time his mind must be more mature. He can do a lot of work s that it could not do when it was young. On the contrary like a runway horse it is hundred times more active its own behalf than ever it was for other. His mind should not become a single minute in idleness. There one lives the more ones’ life become alive and on should not all one’s mind to rest in idleness. Leisure always bready an inconstant mind .He could write in better in his later life.
v Friendship:-
Montaigne developed friendship with a painter in his employment. He always observed one way in which that painter went about his work. He felt tempted to imitate his way of life and working. The painter was very much particular in his job and Montaigne learnt form his how a job should be done in systematic way. He became very friend with him. He took the illustration from Aristotle and say that good lawyers pain more attention to the friendship than to his job and justice. For a perfect society friendship is the peak and very important. All there relationship that are created and fostered by pleasure and enjoyment and profit are less important than a real and true friendship. The feelings of child fire parent are rather respect and friendship is also feed on similar respect. Friendship is a noble relation ship full of service and kindness s that keep friendship always alive. Common friendships are divisible; one may love one person for his beatify, another for his good manner, another for his liberality, another for parental love ,another for brother love, but that friendship which possesses the soul of two persona and ruled over its example love and affection can not be possibly be divided into two never so. Montaigne believes that the true friendship and is the friendship of the sound and not mind and boy.
v Book
In On Book Montaigne writes that books are the most important friend in the one’s life and supports one till one’s death. In books he only looks for pleasures of honest entertainment. He reads only those books that teach him how to know ourselves, and teach how to live well and how to dies well and peacefully. He wishes to get more understand of things by reading good books. He wishes to pass the remainder of his life pleasant and not laboriously among books. The n should be nothing for which he could are to make his brains not even the most precious of knowledge. He loves to read books of simple entertainment like Boccaccio’s’ ‘Decameron’ that simple gives him nothing but joy, pleasure, and entertainment.
v On the art of Conversation:-
On the art of Conversation’ he makes an interesting reading, he says to converse with anybody is an art and it is very difficult one. One can learn a loft form conversation with an ordinary person even. It is a rare virtue one possesses. Sometimes wise man learns more from a fool than a fool learns from a wise man. A good conversation is the most fruitful and natural exercise for our minds. The study of books is a slow moving and feeble process whereas conversation teaches and exercises us at the same time. If a persona talks with a man of strong and tough warriors he presses on his mind and his ideas stimulate his mind. A sensible personal should now how to tall and what to take. In this may Michel Montaigne deals with all type abstract subjects with extraordinary written essays. His essays are in fact extended autobiography.
