Write a detailed note on Prof. Mehta

A scholar of philosophy:- 

          In “Godan” Prof. Mehta represent Prem Chand’s views on the problems of his society. He is a young man; a scholar of philosophy who wants to see life in its various shades. He takes life seriously and observes every aspect of it minutely. He is a friend to all, enemy to one. Most of the characters are deeply influenced by his personality. He plays an important part in the transformation of Miss Malti and Mrs. Govidni. Rai Sahib often seeks his valuable advice and Mrs. Khanna, the sugar mill-own is this great admirer- Khann’as wife, Govidni find solace in his company. And Miss Malti learns from him the lessons of simplicity and sympathy. Malti was once famous for he glamour, but now she serves and nurses the poor women and children in the villages, He says, “Sincerity first and last. Good look and glamour tricks are secondary, I want food for the soul, I don’t care for spicy things?

Attractive Personality

          There is something very attractive in his personality. When he enters the lecture hall, most of the ladies are very curious to have a look at him ad then there is pin-drop silence. He delivers a lecture on the ‘The status of women in Changing Times’. He praises women for their roles of a mother, sister, and wife and also highlights the quality of mercy in them. He also dislikes their present role of a butterfly and the masculine role. Too. As a result, they may lose their feminine grace. He advises them to follow a healthy and positive approach in life. Miss Malti is deeply impressed by his franks and honest ideas. She takes him as her model.

His Platonic love with Malti

          Both Mr. Mehta and Malti stay together, but he has no sensual attraction for her. He guides her from time to time. He dedicates his book on philosophy to her. Both of them agree that hove is the greatest virtue and marriage is only a social contract. They decide not to marry and remain friends only. The Platonic love the best kind of relationship for them. He say to Mr. Mirza, “You are absolutely wrong, Mirzaji,.” Miss Malti is pretty, gay, intelligent and broad mind. But the qualities I seek in my life partner are missing in her. In my Idea a wife should be an embedment of sincerity. She should merge herself with her husband’s personality, the bold is  of the husband and the soul and that of the wife. If I came across such a woman, I fall at her feet.”

          Prof. Mehta is a sincere friend and he is always ready to help others, he spends his income on poor people. Miss Malti is surprised at the mismanagement in his own house. She helps him in different ways. She also takes him to her own house. Both of them propagate the ideas of social justice and love. H represents Prem Chand’s suggestions of different problems of life. He also represents the Indian Urban society.
