Subject: A report on economic and social status of Women.

Respected Madam,

          Women welfare Development Authority recently conducted a survey on economic and social status of women in Bhavnagar district with modern influence working on societies. The status of woman has affected considerable. The young wife of today is relatively emancipated compared to her great-grandmother. She is longer expected to be the mere chattel of her husband, subject to his every wish and fewer children, and is free to a great extent from the drudgery of her house work by the spread of modern appliances.  She can be educated in the same way, play a complementary part in politics, sports, society and in different fields, receive equal pay for equal work and choose to make a career out of mother hood. Here is the outline of the research.  

          For last decade, the condition of women has not much chanced in the rural part of country side. But we may say in big cities, the condition is much better. Before independence the national movement by Gandhiji and other great leader tried hard so that the women came out from the houses. After the independence the status of women has changed in education, society far and wide. 

Social-Status:-

          Before independence, there was not much education among the women, but now awareness spread and parents are alert to educate their girls and for that they came out. They go from one place to another. In education, they select the hard subject as computer, science, CA, ever aeronautical engineering and called by NASA. After getting good education served for their motherland and joined the military also. In politics, literature and in competitive fields women are playing leading role.

          In the past, women were made for only household work and were called ‘House Hen’. But now they understand their role in the society, now they know their ability and their value in society.

          For social status in case of marriage, the position of women is good. Marriage is the part of life and it gives them social status. In Hindus, marriage plays a leading role for the social status for women. In Muslim, women are not coming out their ‘Burka’ as per their religious command.

   Before two decades, the social status of women was not tolerated by the men but now the situation has changed totally. No women are working in the fields of medical teaching, business firm, politics and different fields. They have good status in society. Now, the women are given respect in home and in society.

Economic Condition

          Before two or there decades, the economic condition of women were very poor. At that time women were working only in house and males worked and earned money. So women had to dependent on the male of the family. They had no choice in buying things because they didn’t earn. They had to tolerate all the blows of men.

          But now women are working and earning money are working and earning money. They are the helping hands in the family. They are not only doing house hold work, but also playing leading role in the business, for society, for welfare, for planning and development in society. They are doctors, pilots, scientists, politician, and teachers and so on. Now women are playing the leading role. The have their new choices and spend money on development of their children and on their status.

General Survey:-

          As per the conditional mentioned above the picture has not chanced much. As shown in the report, the education of women in the past was 5 to 10 percent and now that increased to 70% in big cities and 20 to 25% in rural areas.

          As mentioned above the social condition is changed and the rank of social condition of women is more than 60 to 70 %. The social status has changed a lot but it is alarming in the different of Villages.

          Now in big cities, the economic status of working women is recordable. The percentage of economic status in big or small cities is more than 65 to 80 % and in rural part of the country and in villages is also 50 to 60%. It proves their good economical condition and their status.

Recommendations:-

          From all the matter of survey, it is said that the condition of women is good enough in the field of economic and social status. Yet the government should do lots of work and give projects for the welfare and education of women and girds. Vocational trainings centers are opened for women only. Severe punishment must be done on the guilty. The Govt. should bring various upliftment schemes. I hope your Govt. will go in these directions.
